And Herein Lies the Song

by MaryJane

Most people have a song or maybe more than one that causes them to think of a certain person when they hear it.  My mind takes it one step further.  When I start thinking of the same person every time I hear the song and start remembering them, remembering times we’ve spent together, things we’ve done, places we’ve gone, that is how I know that person is really important to me.  Everyone I really value has one, their own song that I associate with no one but them and will listen to when I am thinking of them or when I haven’t talked to them in a while.  It’s a weird form of a connection to the person, it’s far deeper to me than what most people think of when they say a song reminds them of someone.

Some people have lost their songs.  These are the people I have grown past and grown away from.  And there is always a good reason, it is just life.  Sometimes there is a logical association, but most of the time I associate the people with the feeling I get when I hear the song.  It may have absolutely nothing to do with the lyrics or everything.  Sometimes the lyrics and titles are misleading.  I find meaning and I find people in the strangest of songs, sometimes they’re connected, sometimes they aren’t.  But everyone who has played a major part in my life has a song, and I don’t know how many of them know it or understand it, but it doesn’t matter.  If they are one of the people who have had a profound impact on me and they are reading this, they will know who they are.  They will know they have a song.

Music is where I find you and writing is where I tell you and whenever I need you, no matter how far away you may be, you are never more than an mp3 away.  Thank you for being in my music.
